Red Bull and Max Verstappen showcased a stunning comeback following their unexpected retirement in Melbourne, securing their third one-two finish of 2024 in commanding fashion. The Japanese Grand Prix saw Carlos Sainz clinch the final podium spot, narrowly beating out his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. The race was marred by a red flag on the first lap due to a collision between Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon.

Verstappen bounced back after his setback in Australia, dominating the race at Suzuka and finishing 12 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Perez. The initial start was halted by the collision between Ricciardo and Albon, necessitating a restart. Despite the interruption, Verstappen maintained his composure and secured victory.

Sainz continued his impressive podium streak in 2024, securing third place after overtaking his teammate Leclerc, who opted for a strategic one-stop approach. McLaren's Lando Norris, initially in contention, fell behind the Ferraris due to their superior pace.

Fernando Alonso demonstrated resilience in sixth place, fending off challenges from Oscar Piastri and George Russell. Russell's attempt to overtake Piastri on the final lap resulted in a minor incident, though no further action was taken by the stewards. Lewis Hamilton struggled to make an impact, finishing ninth after relinquishing position to Russell earlier in the race.

Yuki Tsunoda delighted the home crowd by securing the final point in tenth place. The race began with Ricciardo and Albon colliding at Turn Three, leading to their early exits.

Despite initial doubts about Red Bull's race pace, Verstappen asserted his dominance once the race resumed, pulling away from the field. Ferrari aimed to capitalize on the opportunity, with Leclerc adopting a one-stop strategy to gain positions.

Ultimately, Leclerc's strategy paid off as he climbed the order, overtaking several competitors including Alonso, Piastri, and the Mercedes drivers. Norris initially held off the Ferraris but couldn't maintain his position against their faster cars.
