Jurgen Klopp criticizes Liverpool FC penalty decision against Man City

Premier League Football

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted that his team deserved a penalty in the dying moments of Sunday's 1-1 draw against Manchester City at Anfield.

Despite equalizing through an Alexis Mac Allister penalty, Liverpool felt they should have been awarded another spot-kick late in the game, as they pushed for a victory after John Stones had put City ahead with a cleverly executed corner routine in the first half. With Liverpool dominating much of the second half, City found themselves under pressure, but VAR Stuart Atwell chose to uphold the on-field referee's decision to not award a penalty when Jeremy Doku appeared to foul Mac Allister in the box.

Klopp, along with the Liverpool faithful at Anfield, believed strongly that a penalty should have been given, with even Sky Sports co-commentator Gary Neville initially leaning towards Liverpool's side. Despite the disappointment, Klopp didn't mince words, declaring it a clear penalty to BBC Sport after the match: "It was 100 per cent a penalty. They will find an explanation. It was 100 per cent a foul in all areas of the pitch and probably a yellow card."
